Synergics co-founder Vivek Das appeared in this episode of Digital Bharat, a CNBC-TV18 series produced in association with AWS, spotlighting how Indian businesses were navigating major infrastructure and technology shifts. In the conversation, Das discussed Synergics’ journey moving its ERP platform from legacy, on-premise infrastructure to AWS, and the real challenges that decision involved at the time for a company that had already spent over a decade in the jewellery ERP space.
The Pre-AWS Challenges
Das described the earlier client-server era as one defined by real infrastructure risk: connectivity issues, security gaps, and questions around long-term sustainability and consistency. He specifically pointed to the toll of ransomware threats during that period, which pushed Synergics to actively search for infrastructure that was both more secure and more scalable at the same time.
Why AWS
According to Das, AWS addressed those exact pain points at the time: a secured, on-demand scalable network with strong reliability. He noted a genuine cultural alignment as well, describing AWS as a company equally obsessed with the end consumer’s experience, which made the decision to migrate feel like a natural fit rather than a forced one.
A Migration With Real Stakes
The move wasn’t simple. Das was direct about the difficulty: the migration affected over 100 clients across the globe at the time, a real operational risk for any company managing live business-critical systems. He credited the team’s execution for getting through it successfully.
Was It Easy or Affordable?
Das didn’t pretend the transition was painless. “There is nothing called easy,” he said, “because change is always difficult.” But he was equally clear that the long-term affordability and peace of mind the move delivered made it worthwhile, especially compared to the ongoing cost of maintaining on-premise infrastructure.
The Business Outcomes
Das pointed to concrete results across two groups. Users reported the platform became faster, easier, and more convenient, with a real gain in day-to-day efficiency. As a company, Synergics gained the scalability to serve everything from large tier-one clients to smaller SMEs in tier-two and tier-three markets at the time, while also expanding internationally, growth he attributed directly to the flexibility AWS’s infrastructure made possible.
